A New Hampshire Ice Castle

Monday, January 13th, 2014

Yesterday we drove 90 miles north to see an ice castle in Lincoln, New Hampshire. It really wasn’t what I had imagined, due to a few too many episodes about ice hotels that I’ve caught on the Travel Channel in the past. (It wasn’t what my daughter pictured, either, due to her seeing Frozen just a few days before - ha!) What we found ourself walking through was an active, melting-then-refreezing, icicle-growing sculpture that seems to change every day. Certain parts of it made you feel like you were in a glacier-blue ice cave with thousands of ice stalactites above your head. The sculptor mentioned that the temporary nature of it, the stages that we get to enjoy before it’s gone, is his favorite part.
